Matthew Prins currently works as a Graphic Designer in Cape Town. His turn to art production is marked by a meticulous, introspective meditation of his subject matter. He is inspired by textile designs, particularly those of Austrian architect, Josef Frank. His works reflect a sophisticated understanding of shape, colour and composition such that their simplicity belies a skilful draftsmanship and acute design aesthetic.
Through the Walls artwork is based on a photograph taken at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. During lockdown Prins was inspired to paint the piece after listening to the album Through the Walls by Who Made Who. It was during this time that he contemplated a world uninhabited by humans, where the natural world quietly reclaims our domestic spaces and restores balance to the environment.
This specific Hemp paper uses one of the oldest and most diverse natural fibers in the world. The FineArt inkjet paper’s base impresses with its bright white natural tone. The lightly textured surface gives the paper a pleasant, silky feel. The acid- and lignin-free paper meets the most exacting requirements for age resistance. Hemp was an essential part of paper production for centuries, and due to its extremely robust fibers, it has often been used for long-lasting historical documents, such as the Gutenberg Bible and the US Declaration of Independence.
